10 reasons to drink more water
In a trial in Japan, adults were asked to drink TWO x 550ml (pint) bottles or glasses of water in addition to their normal intake via food and drink. One bottle on rising and one 2 hours before bedtime.
It resulted in reduced systolic blood pressure and improved kidney function.

1. Reduces blood pressure
2. Helps speed up your metabolism
By making you feel a little fuller, generally, you will slightly reduce food intake and speed up metabolism – making it easier to maintain weight.
3. Improves heart function
Even mild dehydration makes your blood vessels less flexible – your heart has to work harder to pump blood around.
4. Increases mental sharpness
Good hydration supports continued mental clarity; not enough water can lead to 'brain fog'.
5. Improves kidney function
Increased water intake helps improve the way your kidneys clear out a potentially toxic protein called myoglobin.
6. Preserves essential potassium and sodium
Too much sodium (salt) is not good, but you do need the right amount of these trace minerals. Good hydration prevents the excess loss of potassium and sodium.
7. Makes your joints function better
Water is a significant constituent part of cartilage. Think of water as providing good lubrication for your joints.
8. Keeps you regular
Many people don't get enough water (and fibre) to prevent constipation.
9. Helps prevent UTIs
If toxins are not removed properly by your kidneys, urinary tract infections can take hold. [Also see 5 above.]
10. Reduces risk of kidney stones
A third kidney-related reason for drinking more water.

My book Delay Ageing: Healthy to 100, published in 2020, explains the latest ageing science in an accessible way.
It’s been rated 5-star and I am sure you will get a lot of benefit from it, as so many have already.
