Another nutrient combo against Alzheimer's
Recently I reported on the combination of Omega 3 and B vitamins that slashed brain shrinkage in humans. This shrinkage is directly correlated to dementia risk. [Ref: B Vitamins plus Omega 3 slash Dementia Risk by 70% - NutriShield]
Now comes an exciting new study on a combination of curcumin and EGCG, published in the prestigious Nature Scientific Reports in August 2023. It shows an equally remarkable result – albeit this time on mice – which are commonly used in this type of research. He is the Founder and Director of Research and Innovation of Uni-Vite Healthcare and author of a recent book: Delay Ageing: Healthy to 100, where he reveals how to slow ageing and, therefore, help prevent later-life illness.
Combination is synergistic
It is well established that oxidative stress – also known as free radical damage – exerts wide-ranging damage on organs and tissues throughout the body and plays a key role in neuro-degeneration and dementia.
The nutrients curcumin and EGCG (EpiGalloCatechin-3-Gallate), a polyphenol that is especially abundant in green tea, have individually shown memory and general health benefits in both animal and human studies.
But what happens to brain health when you combine them?
The researchers ran behavioural tests on groups of young and aged mice. Both compounds effectively elevated memory function, including in healthy young controls. Curcumin alone was less effective than EGCG alone.
However, the effect of the combination of EGCG and curcumin on older mice resulted in a cognitive brain function that actually surpassed those of healthy young controls.
The researchers concluded:
“EGCG and curcumin combination could serve as a better choice in managing aging-related memory disorders”.
Adding astaxanthin gives a further boost
The researchers also found that astaxanthin, another powerful antioxidant, produced a similar cognitive boost. Astaxanthin is what gives salmon its pink hue and it is found mostly in seafood.
A 4-way combo?
Whilst no one has yet formally researched a four-way combination of Omega 3, B vitamins, plus curcumin and EGCG, anyone taking NutriShield Premium is already taking this combination!
I have taken NutriShield Premium every day for over 20 years, and although it’s a sample of one, I know from epigenetic testing that my brain age is many years younger than my chronological age of 83.
Thanks for reading
I spend my time researching the new science of healthy, successful ageing. And how to extend health span rather than just lifespan.

NutriShield Premium Health Supplement
NutriShield Premium was originally designed by Dr Paul Clayton, former Chair of the Forum on Food and Health at the Royal Society of Medicine.
It contains 6 different capsules, combining a total of 43 powerful nutrients to support healthy ageing and has been updated and improved every year since 2002 based on the newest longevity research.
Delay Ageing book explains the ageing process and how you can postpone it
Medical researchers agree that if you slow ageing, you also delay the onset of age-related disease. And we know that it’s not just nutrition. Sleep, reducing stress and cardio and strength exercise are also essential to longevity and ageing well.
My book Delay Ageing: Healthy to 100, published in 2020, explains the latest ageing science in an accessible way.
It’s been rated 5-star and I am sure you will get a lot of benefit from it, as so many have already.
